The core of what drives us as breeders is the love for the Angus cow. She is the matriarch of the beef industry around the world and the backbone of what makes the Angus breed so popular. She is modern, versatile, and adaptive and with core values of fertility, milking ability and softness.
We intend to breed and keep females who exhibit the traits that got the breed to the top. The type the traditional true cattleman understood and pursued as this was the best method they had to identify the best. It served them well.
The balance is in bringing it all together. The marriage of the cattleman traits and the science. Stacked proven pedigrees, types and performance over time will produce predictability for both our herd and ultimately and most importantly our clients.
So, what’s our ideal cow? Moderate in frame, she calves down as a two-year-old, produces a solid calf every year at weaning time and re breeds every year in a 6-week cycle. Has the ability to lay down enough fat to get her through the dry periods and displays sufficient muscle expression.
She has a great udder including 4 even teats that are attached high and tight to the body. She is long, deep through the middle and wedge shaped with wide hip and pins.
We methodically measure them over their lifetime, extract their DNA and record their Genotype. Together all this information is combined in an EBV giving us the best chance of predicting a breeding outcome.
